Independent Private Equity Fund


A private equity fund in which the main source of capital is obtained from third parties. Also, the management company is largely owned by the general partner (GP). For example, a private equity fund may be created by a private equity firm in joint partnership with a number of investors who contribute 20% of the fund’s capital, with the remaining 80% being obtained from third parties.

The independent private equity fund is the most popular type of private equity fund.
