Abandonment Option


A real option which allows for the termination of an investment at a stage earlier than originally planned or agreed. The decision to bail out a project/ investment is typically considered by management at the beginning of a new project. This decision is actually taken once that project is no longer profitable. Principally, exercising this option is meant to cut losses and redirect available resources to most feasible investments.
