Waqf al-Sabeel


A type of waqf (endowment) which is established to serve the general public. Examples of waqf al-sabil include construction of a masjid (mosque), school, hospital, residential building, etc. The beneficiaries of waqf are all members of a given community in addition to strangers (e.g., in the case of water supplies or accommodation for passers-by/ way-farers).

Waqf al-sabeel (وقف السبيل), also spelled waqf al-sabil, is Arabic for public endowment.
