Nass Qat’ii


Arabic (نص قطعي) for an authoritative shari’a textual source (nass) whose authenticity is not a subject of dispute or speculation among Muslim scholars. An example is the prohibition of riba which was prescribed by an unquestionable Qur’anic text in a number of verses such as “.. and Allah has permitted sale and forbidden riba..” (verse 2: 275).

Nass qat’ii is an Arabic term that denotes “indisputable/ unequivocal textual source.

The opposite of nass qat’ii is nass zanni.
