Sa’a


Arabic (صاع) for a small container; it is an Islamic weight measurement unit (measurement of volume) that is equivalent, according to the majority of fuqaha (jumhoor) to 2.5- 3 litre, or the volume of four madd (singular of amdad). In terms of kilogram, it is equal, based on the views of jumhoor, to 2.035 kilogram. However, according to the Hanafis, it is equal to 3.25 kilogram (and as such it is roughly equal to the sa’a of Madinah).

Sixty sa’a constitute one wasaq.
