A form of financing that involves the combination of waqf with the mechanisms of crowdfunding so as to bring socio-economic development to the Muslim society and Ummah at large. With waqf crowdfunding, Muslim individuals can contribute towards establishment of a general waqf that aims to serve a variety of far-reaching causes and objectives.
Crowdfunding capitalizes on technological mobilization of funds and hence allows cash waqf to flow to waqf mutawallis (authorized or recognized waqf trustees or managers) and charities for their activities such as social enterprises, education, human capital development, Islamic microfinance, humanitarian relief, religious activities/ assets, among others.
