A leveraged super senior tranche (LSS tranche) in the tranche notional is synthetically leveraged using a pool of synthetic assets (usually equity and subordinated tranchesthat provide leveraged exposure). In other words, the underlying reference portfolio is not a physical one, but rather it is a fictitious (structured/synthetic) portfolio made up of a number of credits with each credit having its respective notional amount. Leveraged structures, including synthetically leveraged super senior tranches, are typically designed to yield-hungry investors.
