Difference Between Ordinary Hibah and Hibat al-Thawab

Ordinary hibah (هبة) is a gift (an amount of wealth) given gratis (for no consideration) for the sake of the recipient. It is a gift for no compensation (iwadh) in return.

Hibat al-thawab (هبة الثواب) is a gift (an amount of wealth) given for the sake of soliciting a reward from the recipient in return. It constitutes both a gift and a counter-gift, equivalent in magnitude/ value (a sort of commutative exchange, rather than a gratuitous transfer of wealth).

Hibat al-thawab features the properties of ordinary hibah, but not the other way around (hibah does not have the properties of hibat al-thawab).
