Buy-Side Institution


An institutional investor that invests money at its disposal. Examples include mutual funds, pension funds, endowments, trusts, insurers, hedge funds, etc. These institutions appoint investment managers to manage their funds. In turn, investment managers seek the services of buy-side traders to execute their trading decisions.

Buy-side institutions are also known as investment sponsors.
