Ticker Symbol

The format of ticker tape information which gives a glimpse about a stock price in terms of current price, change direction, and change amount. An example is the following symbol:

XYZ3K@25.25 ▲ 1.10

This denotes:

Ticker SymbolShares traded@Price Traded, Change Direction, Change Amount

Ticker symbol consists of a set of characters that identify a given company stock. In the example above, XYZ indicates that this information belongs to the common stock of XYZ. Next to it, the shares traded piece of information is presented: here three thousand shares were traded. Thereafter, there appears the price traded: it is the price per share for a specific transaction. Then, the up and down symbol is present to show the direction of price change: for higher trading prices, as compared to the previous day’s closing price, is an upward pointing triangle. Finally, the ticker tape signifies the difference between current trading price and previous closing price (i.e., the amount of change).
