Scripophily


The trading of old securities certificates as collectors’ items. Due to the specific nature of this trading, these certificates have a different value from their redemption value or intrinsic value. In other words, scripophily is a collectible hobby that involves collecting antique stocks and bonds.

The term “scripophily” was invented at a contest held by the Financial Times newspaper in 1978 aiming to come up with a proper word that could describe this particular hobby.
