Calendar Effect


A securities market seasonal phenomenon wherein the stocks tend to perform differently at different times of a calendar year. More specifically, cyclical anomalies in returns are almost solely the result of calendar timings rather than real market influences. The so-called January effect and the weekend effect are examples.
