The adding up of all futures positions owned or controlled by one investor or a group of investors, so that applicable accounting requirements can be determined and observed, especially in terms of compliance with speculative position limits, reporting status, etc.

For example, investors with positions that exceed a specific level are required to report to the agency in charge of market supervision or regulation (such as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in the US).
