Ex-Post


Latin for a situation or fact that is taken into consideration “after the event”. In other words, ex-post involves an analysis of relevant facts made available after an event in order to reach a specific conclusion.

In finance, ex-post is used describe the actual outcomes of an action or actual returns of a specific security, investment, or company (ex-post return). In relation to a fund or portfolio, the ex-post return denotes the actual return of the fund or portfolio. actual returns and translates from Latin as “after the fact.” Likewise, ex-post analysis considers financial results after occurrence and uses such results to construct a perception about potential, future returns.
