A common share of stock that is issued by foreign firms and sold in the U.S market. For example, a Japanese company may sell its common shares in the United States for considerations such as expanding the geographic scope of its equity, promoting its stock outside its country of residence, etc. The Yankee common stock is a form of international common stock issue which sold in more than one country by nonresident companies.
