Voice-Brokered Repo

A type of repo that trades over voice transmitting media (phones, instant messaging, etc.) in the so-called voice-brokered market. This repo is transacted inter-dealer, and due to the neck-to-neck cost competition from other more cost-efficient alternatives (ATS repo), voice-brokered repo largely involves transactions in which voice-brokers can add value in a less liquid repo niche market, by proactively matching buy and sell interests of market participants.

Therefore, voice-brokered repos tend to bee larger, longer and more structured (e.g., forward repos). In transactions where price is less certain and collateral is more complex (such as credit repos), voice-brokered repo provides a better medium.
