Unrestricted Equity


A type of equity that can be held by domestic residents as well as foreigners (as opposed to restricted equity). Foreign investors can hold this type of equity which is not subject to control over capital flow into certain sectors. By nature, unrestricted equity/ unrestricted shares includes bearer shares that are open to all types of ownership, irrespective of residence or nationality.

In a different context, unrestricted equity may also refer to any undesignated funding, particularly by a donor or supporter. An entity holding such equity is free to deploy the funds to the uses it deems fit.
