Long Bond

A bond with a long period remaining until maturity date. Bonds with more than two years to maturity are often referred to as long bonds. However, defining the exact term of a long bond is quite subjective. Sometimes, a bond with a maturity of more than five years is referred to as a long bond. In this specific meaning, a long bond is also known as a long coupon.

In a different context, long bond may refer to a bond in which a long position is taken. Taking a long bond position indicates that the investor buys the bond rather than borrowing it.
