An investment that is performing bad or not performing as expected. An example of a lemon is a promising stock that didn’t live up to expectations such as many technology stocks during the 2000 and 2001 bear market.

In general, lemon is anything that underpeforms or doesn’t meet expectations or fulfill desired goals/ outcomes.
