Coupon Product

A broad sub-category within capital protected products that provides, in addition to capital protection (full, 100%, or partial), a certain amount of coupon (interest payment) depending on specific conditions or under specific circumstances. Such products take many forms including coupon multi, autocallables, and accruals.

For example, the family of coupon multi provides, in addition to full capital protection, high coupons if the underlying outperforms its initial level. However, as the name implies, and as a coupon product, upside participation is limited (return is limited). In a basket product, increasing coupons depend on the number of outperformers (relative to a predefined barrier) at observation dates.

The family of autocallable coupon products provide yield enhancement conditional to early redemption, financed by conditional capital protection. At predefined early redemption dates, if underlying outperforms its initial level, then investors will get full amount of capital and enhanced coupon. Otherwise, the product continues until next date without any intermediary coupon payment.
