Bear Hug


A very attractive buyout offer that is presented by a potential acquirer to the stockholders of an acquisition target, so that the “generous” offer will be almost certainly accepted (the target will be “hugged” into acceptance).

A bear hug is not only pitched at a premium price substantially above the market price of the target company’s stock, but is is likely to offer cash payments to selling stockholders.
