Deferred Futures


A futures contract which matues at most distant months. That is, it has expirations or delivery dates furthest into the future. In a carry market, deferred futures prices are higher than front futures prices. To the contrary, in an inverted market, the futures price of the front month (nearby month) is higher than that of the deferred month.
