An abbreviation for collateralized mortgage obligation. A mortgage-backed bond where holding investors are divided into tranches (maturity classes) and principal repayments are channeled to the tranches according to specific rules. Tranches pay different interest rates according, of course, to their maturities (usually from a few months to as long as 20 years).
