It stands for unrestricted investment account, which is an Islamic investment account that is subject to no restrictions as to the purpose, geographical distribution or way of investing the account’s funds. In other words, the account holder authorizes its bank to invest his funds in any manner the bank deems appropriate. As such, the bank can commingle its funds with those of the investment account holders, or likewise the funds of investment account holders with other sources of funds available to the bank such as current accounts.
