The price that would be received from selling an asset under current market conditions. For example, the market value of a share of stock may change daily in reaction to market forces. On a given day, the prevailing price, at a given moment, represents the current market value (e.g., closing price, moving average price, etc).

Compare with: current market value (CMV) of a security held in a margin account; current market value of a bond.
