It stands for up-and-in option; a barrier option in which the right to exercise activates or becomes active if the actual spot price of the underlying exceeds the specified barrier. This option pays off nothing unless the underlying rises to or through the upper barrier. Otherwise, it pays off as an equivalent ordinary option.
