It usually equals the position limit. However, by definition, it is the maximum number of option contracts that can be exercised by any individual investor (or a group of individual investors acting together) in any period of five consecutive days. Exercise limits, like position limits, help guard the market off the adverse influences of the activities of an individual investor or a group of investors.
