The widening of the yield curve which results from long-term interest rates increasing at a faster pace than short-term interest rates. This causes a steepening of the yield curve. For example, a bear steepener case occurs when 10-year yields rise faster than 2-year yields. This is usual when investors are pessimistic or bearish about stock prices over the short-term.
