A certificate of deposit (CD) that builds on fostering a special relationship with the holder (depositor) by entitling him to lower rates (hence lower costs) on borrowing (getting a loan) from the same bank or institution (depositee), or reduced fees on the holder’s current account (checking account). Typically, there are specific requirements for customers to qualify for relationship CDs such as having a wealth management checking account or premier checking acccount, etc.
