Tier-1 Equity Instrument


An instrument (any type of securities or financial obligations) that is created or issued by an entity (the issuer) as part, in whole or partially, of tier-1 equity. This includes instruments that are issued in respect of securities that qualify, wholly or partially, as tier 1 capital, but excluding equity capital.

In other words, such instruments are those  eligible for inclusion within tier 1 capital, other than CET1 capital.
