Scrip


A provisional certificate, usually issued by a firm, that entitles the holder to receive a fractional share of stock. This certificate is usually distributed as a result of a spinoff, a stock dividend, or a stock split. For example, a shareholder would receive scrip for one-half of a share in the event the issuer carried out a stock split whereby an additional share is issued for each existing two.
