A metaphor (derogatory) for a low-priced motel that is completely in a state of disrepair. The proverbial “roach motel” may also imply anything (a place, a situation, etc.) that is easy to enter or fall into, but it is quite difficult or costly to leave.
Broadly speaking, roach motel is anything that conjures up images of neglect and abandonment.
