Arabic (عقود الحفظ) for a category of contracts (uqud/ aqd) that are designed for protection or safeguarding of property (mal). Examples of uqud al-hifz include aqd al-wadiah (contract of safe custody) whereby the depositor (mude’e) aims solely at keeping his money safe and protected from the risks of loss, theft, extortion, etc. This type of contracts may also aim to provide some form of agency (wakalah) to the depositee (muda’a ladaihee).
