Ahliyyat al-Wujoob

A type of ahliyyah (أهلية) which refers to a person’s capability to enjoy legal rights and assume responsibilities. By default, all human beings have this capacity regardless of age, sex, race, ethnicity, etc (even an embryo in his/her mother’s womb does have it in a sense. It may also extend to the time after death, until a deceased’s property is divided amongst inheritors and outstanding debts are settled).

Ahliyyat al-wujoob (أهلية الوجوب) is Arabic for capacity of obligation or receptive capacity (the capacity to enjoy rights and be held responsible for actions).

It is also spelled ahliyyat al-wujūb.
