The portion of securities from a new public offering issue that are returned to the lead underwriter by syndicate members (participating investment bankers) in order to facilitate sales to institutional investors (banks, hedge funds, mutual funds, financial firms, etc).

Institutions buying from the pot designate the companies to be credited with “pot securities”.
