An initial public offering (IPO) in which the issuing company doesn’t hire the services of an underwriter and sells its shares directly to investors. Direct public offering can be done through different channels including a proprietary sales team, over the internet, etc. However, the ability of an issuer to sell its shares on its own is usually incomparable to that of a specialized underwriter.

Direct public offering is known for short as DPO.
