An abbreviation for hold on for dear life; a piece of advice that a holder of an asset (e.g., a currency, a crypto, etc.) should ignore what happens on the short term, and only focus on what unfolds in the long term, particularly with respect to the price of that asset. This is premised on the observation that the asset price will rise in the long term, eventually allowing the asset’s holder to make certain profit from price differences.
However, at times such an advice turns out to be counter-productive, where prices of particular currencies and cryptocurrencies crash, wiping out all possibility to make any gains, let alone redeem the money invested.
