A bond that is issued by a firm that allows it to be converted into equity at certain times using a specified exchange or conversion ratio. In that sense, convertibles, for a shortcut, are bonds constituting an embedded call option on the issuing company’s stock. When holders of such bonds exercise their rights, the company needs to issue more shares of its stock and sell them to the holders for the pre-determined strike price.
