The processes undertaken by a specialized corporation, called a clearinghouse, in order to facilitate securities transactions. That includes: validation, delivery and settlement services.
In clearing, the clearinghouse becomes the buyer to each seller of a futures contract (or derivative) and the seller to each buyer of its clearing members.
