ATO


It stands for agricultural trade option; an OTC commodity option that is traded by producers or users of the underlying commodity. A producer may purchase,  off-exchange, an agricultural trade option for a crop of an agricultural commodity produced on its farm in order to provide coverage for a minimum percentage of the estimated monetary value of the commodity or as a hedging transaction (reduction of production risk, price risk, or revenue risk), among others.
