Status Quo Bias

A term describing the tendency of humans to go along with the status quo or inertia (the default option). In other words, when a person sticks to the status quo, he/ she tends to do nothing or to remain unchanged over a span of time, for whatever reasons. Sticking to status quo or inertia refers to humans’ inability to alter the ways they process information from the surrounding environment, preferring to adhere to default mental settings.

Simply speaking, status quo bias describes people’s resistance to change. A human prefers to maintain one’s current situation and opposes actions or developments that may change the state of affairs as it is perceived to impact its habits, interests, lifestyle, etc.
