A person who adds his endorsing signature to a promissory note without compensation. This person, known also as the cosigner, acts as a guarantor who will be liable for payment in the event of default by the issuer. An endorser may add his official signature to a promissory note issued by a merchant so that the latter can qualify for credit or obtain it at more favorable terms.
