A firm that generates cash in excess of what is needed to keep up its business or earning power. A cash cow is typically expected to produce more-than-needed cash flows without having the ability to plow profits back in the business to finance growth opportunities. Cash cows are better milked continuously with as little investment as possible, since such investment would generate no real gains in value.
