A stock that is issued by a company with a market capitalization of more than $300 million and less than $2 billion. This stock is less risky than a micro-cap stock, but is riskier than a large-cap stock. Small-cap stocks are usually issued by small-size companies (small-cap companies) which have good potential for rapid growth in the future. Usually, such companies are new to their industries. Small-cap stocks don’t get press coverage and investor interest as much as large-cap stocks, and fewer analysts issue reports on them.
